I’ve always loved endurance sports and traveling. I got started as a long distance runner doing cross-country in high school and college and eventually worked up to marathons and triathlons. Growing up, my family seemed to always have a reason to travel, whether it was for work or pleasure. It’s natural to me that I’ve continued this lifestyle and have lived and traveled in different countries. At the moment, I live in Philadelphia where I am finishing my fourth year of medical school at Drexel University. I’m finding Philadelphia to be the perfect place to get into cycling, especially given the constant rush hour traffic and unavoidable parking tickets.
My interest in global health began prior to my first year of medical school, while traveling around Southeast Asia. In Thailand, I joined a group of backpackers who had independently organized volunteer projects to clean up after the tsunami. Being a part of this group and its success was an amazing way to become involved with international advocacy. As a medical student, I found ways to continue my involvement. I’ve spent time working in a variety of medical facilities all over South America, from surgery centers to rural family medicine clinics.
I’m looking forward to sharing my global health experiences. I think the best part about R4WH is that it brings together medicine, advocacy, and a group of people excited about biking across the country to meet this goal. |
