Joe is now serving his second term as a member of the R4WH Board of Directors. He resides in Pittsburgh, PA as a resident of the UPMC Internal Medicine and Global Health Program.
He attended Ohio State, having actively served R4WH from 2006 until the end of his term as CEO in June of 2008. To this day, his motivations in medicine are the same that drove him to work with R4WH in the first place. As MLK Jr put it, "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane." Health care and economic disparity are abundant in all corners of society and, he believes, are the root of more social problems than we give them credit for. This is the niche of R4WH. The American public has the potential to affect great change...but great movements have always started with knowledge, which is why the Coast-To-Coast Lectures Series is at the heart of R4WH efforts.
Joe completes his training with the UPMC Global Health Program in 2011. In the mean time, he is active in healthcare reform efforts in Pittsburgh, as well as the Gates-funded Vaccine Modeling Initiave. His interests include cycling, trying to overcome his personal affliction which inevitbaly leads him to wear mismatched socks on a daily basis...and cheese...all kinds of cheese.
