R4WH CEO / National Team Rider
The Ohio State University College of Medicine
Findlay, OH
I was born and raised in Findlay, a small town in northwest Ohio. I ventured over to our neighboring state, Indiana, for my undergraduate education, attending DePauw University (with a “w”, not an “l”). Following my four years at DePauw, I traveled back to the great state of Ohio (“the heart of it all”) for medical school. I am currently a fourth-year medical student at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Following graduation, I plan on pursuing a residency in pediatrics.
I have been passionate about serving the underserved for as long as I can remember. Beginning in early high school, I have had the amazing opportunity to travel to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Brazil for medical and public health service trips. While participating in these experiences, I have been able to observe first-hand the lack of medical care available to these people, as well as their personal plights to obtain this care.
From the first time I heard about Ride for World Health (during medical school orientation, in 2006), I just knew I had to be involved. It sounded like such an amazing organization and the perfect way to finish up the last two months of my medical school career. R4WH combines two components that are incredibly important in my life – global health and athletic activity. I have always been an avid runner and swimmer, and recently (about 3 years ago) developed a love for biking.
I am so incredibly grateful and excited (and, let’s be honest, a little nervous) to be selected as this year’s CEO for Ride for World Health. With the tireless strength and ability of the entire leadership team and national rider team, I hope to make this year’s ride the most successful it has ever been. Although I realize that on my own, I can do little, I believe that together, we can make a big difference.
Thanks in advance to everyone for their kind and generous support. Without this, we would never succeed. See you on the road! (We’ll be the ones wearing the sweet orange spandex, making everyone else jealous!) |
