Hello and welcome to my page. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale Florida. As a kid I did a lot of volunteering in the nursing home where my mom worked. There I was exposed to people with quadriplegia, HIV, and other chronic conditions. This experience, coupled with my father’s near-fatal car accident, propelled me toward a future in medicine.
I am currently in my fourth year of med school at FSU. I have chosen Emergency medicine as my field because it will allow me to treat the widest variety of illnesses in the broadest population of people. It also gives me the ability to assist my family members with healthcare needs.
Two of my greatest interests are teaching and bicycling. At FSU, as a senior I taught freshmen chemistry labs and worked in the math center as a tutor. I started to ride my bike a lot when my car broke down during medical school. Riding was first transportation and then blossomed into a hobby. Thus, the Ride for World Health (R4WH) was a natural choice for me.
I expect R4WH to be an eye opening experience for me. I want to learn and educate others about healthcare issues facing impoverished nations (malaria, untreated birth defects, access to basic care, etc). I am excited for this chance and appreciate your support. Travis. |
