The Ohio State University College of Medicine
Nevada City, CA
I grew up in Nevada City, California, a small town near Lake Tahoe (some people might remember it for the name of a LeMond bike). I went to the University of California, Davis for my undergraduate education where I majored in biochemistry and molecular biology. For medical school, OSU had the strength to pull me out to the Midwest and I became a Buckeye for life. I love what our college of medicine has to offer and couldn’t be happier with my choice.
I have been interested in medicine for as long as I can remember because I love science and wanted to do something that would make a significant impact in the lives of others. To that end, one of my goals has been to volunteer my time in various communities to provide health care for those with limited access to it and to be an advocate for people in need of help. Some of my favorite experiences include travelling to Uganda to work with the Batwa (Pygmies) and working as a coordinator for the Columbus Free Clinic (a free, entirely student run clinic). I am incredibly excited about the Ride for World Health for similar reasons and I look forward to sharing my passion with a nationwide audience.
I have never undertaken such an intimidating athletic challenge, but I do love biking, running and many other sports. I know that teaching audiences across the country while riding 3700 miles will show our commitment to worldwide health care. My hope is that it will inspire others to follow in the direction we are trying to lead – to improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. |
